ViewRanger for Wear OS requires an Android smartphone or iPhone with a WiFi or data connection for initial install and set-up. Also requires the latest ViewRanger app (9.3.0 or later).
Some maps sold separately. ViewRanger for Wear OS supports topographic maps for 17 countries: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Sweden, and USA. Austria and Denmark topographic maps only available on Android.

Saving standalone offline maps without a route launches on March 1, 2019. 
Standalone track recording without an iPhone or Android smartphone is exclusive to Casio Pro Trek Smart watches. This feature launches on March 1, 2019. Users can record a track with any Wear OS watch when connected to an Android smartphone. The phone app records the track; the watch app shows track stats and GPS position on the map.
To show real-time altitude and elevation gain/loss stats in the ViewRanger for Wear OS app, the smartwatch must have a built-in barometer when using without a phone, or be connected to an Android smartphone.
