Summer in Austria: The Twin-Region Altenmarkt Zauchensee
We all hope the current restrictions on travel will be lifted by the return of the summer. When they are, we should be ready for a holiday to remember...
Altenmarkt Zauchensee: Two towns, one holiday. From gentle meadows to exhilarating summits. On the one hand, you have Altenmarkt, a laid-back village in a sprawling valley, filled with rolling hills, gurgling streams, and colourful flowers. On the other hand, there’s Zauchensee, located on 1,350 metres above sea level, whose mountains have seen countless world cup races and beckon all summiteers.
And then there’s the surroundings: In most every direction you go, you’ll find a crystal-clear lake to take a dip; a forest trail to go explore; or a view to take your breath away. Plus: Salzburg, city of Mozart, is just an hour away.
Suggested activities to try during your stay:
- Take the Gamskogelbahn chairlift up to 1,900 metres above sea level and enjoy the views while having a coffee at the Gamskogel hut, then take a gentle hike in the afternoon
- Take part in one of the regular guided e-bike tours or explore a themed route by yourself
- Take part in a guided trail horse riding experience on flat gallops along the valley or up through the mountains
- Take a refreshing dip in the cold waters natural mountain Zauchensee lake with an impressive Alpine backdrop
