Make the most of the last few weeks of summer and get on the water with these perfect canoeing and kayaking routes. The UK offers some of the most amazing landscapes and areas that you can easily explore off land with plenty of access to the rivers and lakes - so let’s get paddling!
1. Afon Cledwen, Wales (FREE)
Length: 10.44 miles

A route to test your skills and abilities with plenty of variety to paddle through. This mountain river takes you through sculptured gorges with a beautiful view alongside. Head down here a few days after rain though as flooding may make it dangerous so take care!

2. Beinn Bheoil, Scotland (£)
Length: 27.98 miles

A challenging route through the stunning highlands of Scotland. Make sure you’re well-prepared with safety equipment for this one and test your paddling technique while travelling along Loch Ericht. The amazing and impressive views will reward your hard work.

3. St Herbert’s Island, Cumbria (FREE)
Length: 4.35 miles

One of the shorter routes, you begin heading towards the cliff of Walla Crag. Once you’ve reached Lord’s Island you have the opportunity to stop off and explore the woodlands. Continue to paddle clockwise following the loop and passing pretty scenery. Why not take lunch and stop off in the perfect picnic areas.

4. Wye valley, Herefordshire (FREE)
Length: 8.84 miles

This route takes you through a designated area of outstanding beauty. Follow the river through the valley and soak up the beauty and scenery. Keep an eye out for local wildlife too as there’s plenty to spot in the area.

5. Erewash loop, Derbyshire. (£)
Length: 8.34 miles

Begin in Erewash Canal and follow it into the shallow river, with a few rapids along the way to liven up your journey, and end in Attenborough Nature Reserve. Then following the River Trent back, this is a nice and peaceful paddle.
