24 hr Round Norfolk Relay On Track with ViewRanger

Using ViewRanger could be a tactical advantage to competitors at this year’s Birketts Round Norfolk Relay.

On the 15th and 16th of September 2012 ViewRanger is coming to the aid of runners all over Norfolk as they try to complete the Birketts Round Norfolk Relay. The course is a 197 mile relay, divided into 17 unequal, multi-terrain stages. It is the ultimate test for any running club!

Cornr_logo.jpgmpetitors and spectators have been downloading each individual stage of the route to their computer, or directly to their phone via the ViewRanger app. To help spectators during the race, both the lead and rear vehicles have BuddyBeacon switched on. ViewRanger's BuddyBeacon allows the user to share their real-time mapped location with friends on their smartphone or via ViewRanger’s web portal. This means spectators and teams will be able to see when the lead and rear vehicles are approaching.

Even better, if you have a friend actually competing and they take their phone with them, you can track their progress too, via the BuddyBeacon feature on the ViewRanger app. The information will be sent straight to your phone, where you can see their position on a ViewRanger map and ensure you are there to wave and cheer them on!

Providing Live Information for Marshalls and Race HQ

Whilst ViewRanger may help teams to track their progress, ViewRanger BuddyBeacon is providing vital information back to Race HQ by monitoring and tracking the lead vehicle, sweep vehicle, and Chief Marshall vehicle.  Running an event on the roads of Norfolk over 24 hours - where each team has left at a different time - is a substantial administration challenge.

This is the second year running that the Round Norfolk Relay race administration team have used ViewRanger to track the overall progress of the event.

For competitors, the stage maps show their current position as well as how far they have until the finish line and by using BuddyBeacon they will also be able to discover how far from the lead vehicle they are.

All this shows that whether you are a marshall, event organizer, competitor or a spectator, by using ViewRanger and BuddyBeacon you are able to boost your enjoyment and ensure you get the most out of the event.
