Symbian, Android and iPhone
ViewRanger runs on the iPhone and on Symbian S60 based and Android based phones. It uses the internal GPS, and on Symbian can use a Bluetooth GPS. It supports both keypad based and touch screen based phones.

ViewRanger for Symbian phones

Latest software: The ViewRanger Symbian software was updated to version 2.8.8 in July 2010. To download the trial together with sample maps please visit the trial download page. If you have purchased and activated ViewRanger then download the software from the software page.
Phone upgrade or replacement: Visit the changing phone section of the wiki for instructions on moving ViewRanger to your new phone.
User manual: The ViewRanger User Manual for Symbian S60 contains detailed instructions for using ViewRanger and is illustrated by many screen grabs. It is in PDF format and is 2.7MB is size.
Ovi and App Stores: ViewRanger for Symbian S60 is also available through Ovi and other app stores. The version of ViewRanger in Ovi runs permanently and does not need to be activated. It allows you to use online mapping from Open Street and Open Cycle Map. See the online mapping section of the wiki.

ViewRanger for Android phones
Latest software: The Android version of ViewRanger is available from www.viewranger.com/software. The latest release is v1.1.8 and added support for GPX file import and export, user accounts, open street and cycle mapping, ZIP package download, New Zealand maps and phones with an SD card as well as a built in disk.
The Android version of ViewRanger doesn't have as many features as the Symbian version, but is being regularly updated to add them.
Beta release: For the very latest changes, a beta release of ViewRanger is available from www.viewranger.com/vranbeta. See the release notes for details of the changes.
Instructions: Instructions and the getting started guide are available in the wiki.
Phone upgrade or replacement: There is no charge to move ViewRanger to a Symbian or Android phone, read the instructions on moving ViewRanger to a new Android phone.

Apple iPhone
ViewRanger for the iPhone is now available from the Apple app store.
The app includes a token worth of credit, see the wiki for details of what's included.
The user manual is available here.
Version 1.1.0 was released on 20th July, containing for the iPad, support for the multi-tasking in iOS 4 and support for New Zealand maps. Update using iTunes or the App store, see the release notes in the wiki. Details of changes in the previous release, v1.0.6, are also available.

At the weekend, on bank holidays and in the evening we recommend you use email to contact us as we regularly check and answer emails outside office hours.
If you contact ViewRanger technical support please follow this advice, so we can resolve your query as quickly as possible:
  • Give as precise a description of the problem as possible
  • Tell us which version of ViewRanger you are using, which model of phone, and which maps are installed
  • If you have seen a warning or error message, give the exact text of the message
Activation and License Keys
When you install ViewRanger you can activate it using Options > Activate. Or, if your prefer, obtain the license key from the activation page.
If you subsequently need a new license key please email support, providing your phone's ID shown on ViewRanger's Enter license key panel. On Symbian and Android phones this is usually the IMEI number, which can also be obtained by dialling *#06#, and on the iPhone it is the UDID. Please include the email address you used when you first activated.
If you are transferring to the iPhone then please provide the phone's UDID. The wiki explains how to get the UDID.
Buddy Beacon
The Buddy Beacon enables you to send your position to the ViewRanger server and to allow other people to use a PIN to follow your position. Positions can be watched on the Buddy Beacon web page or within ViewRanger.
