The ViewRanger immersive-mapping software has been developed for the S60 platform, built on the Symbian OS. The S60 platform is licensed by some of the foremost mobile phone manufacturers in the world.
ViewRanger runs on Symbian S60 based phones and devices (S60 2nd, 3rd and 5th edition). ViewRanger supports phones with built-in GPS, such as the N95 - phones with a built in GPS are indicated in the table below - or you can use an NMEA-compatible Bluetooth GPS receiver. (You can also view the maps and panorama without a GPS.) ViewRanger also supports the new touch screen S60 phones such as the Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic.
ViewRanger has been designed to work without mobile coverage. It will display maps, record tracks, navigate, show points-of-interest and display its panorama without requiring a mobile network connection. However, to use the Buddy Beacon, or to share images, notes and points-of-interest, or to update licensed POI sets, your handset needs a mobile Internet or wifi connection.
