ViewRanger and TV Walks have created the first location-enabled video guide: The ViewRanger TV Walks Guide to Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail.
As you walk along the Path, informative video clips burst into life on your phone - automatically triggered by your location using GPS.
Enjoy a dramatic journey along Britain's greatest Roman monument. Anthony Burton, author of the official companion guide to Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail, provides a fascinating insight into the history and architecture of the Wall; stories of the Romans living along the wall; and details of the scenic views to be enjoyed along the route.

With video clips positioned all along Hadrian's Wall Path, Anthony is your personal guide to this wonder of Roman Britain. In his gentle and informative style, Anthony will lead you through the stunning scenery describing the many sights of historical and geographic importance. Each video clip is between 30 seconds and 72 seconds long, giving you sharp insight relevant to that particular location.
GPS-enabled video clips are included for key locations along the Path. Anthony Burton's experience as an author of many National Trail books, and a recognised expert on the history and geography of the UK, makes him an ideal walking companion.
The ViewRanger TV Walks Guide uses GPS to trigger video clips to appear on your mobile phone at key locations along the Path. These clips burst into life as you follow the route, using ViewRanger as your personal satnav.
You can also simply browse the waypoint clips at any time, perhaps to review or plan the day's journey.
All information - maps, route details and video, are pre-loaded onto your handset. A mobile network is not required for full operation of the Guide. |

The Hadrian's Wall Path is shown as a series of waypoints over the Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 scale map. Waypoints with GPS-enabled video clips are shown with the TVWalks icon. |
|
As you walk along the Path, ViewRanger uses GPS (in-handset or via bluetooth GPS) to automatically know your precise location. |
|
When you reach the proximity of a key location, then the video clip for that location will automatically play.
A simple click will play the video clip again. |
|
ViewRanger's popular 3D Panoramic Viewpoint maps are also included - allowing you to identify key landscape features around the Path at any location. (Seen here is the view from Sewing Shield Crags.) |

ViewRanger is a fully featured off-road and trail navigation tool. ViewRanger software is included with your Hadrians Wall Path Guide. Click to check out all the capabilities of ViewRanger.
Installation is easy. Simply download the Video Guide bundle, which contains the software, route data, and all video clips, and copy onto your phone. Activate the Guide via the web or directly from your handset - and you are ready to go.
Hadrian's Wall Path is the National Trail of some 84 miles (135 km) linking Wallsend, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, with Bowness-on-Solway on England's west coast.
A great companion for the long-distance hiker or weekend walker, the ViewRanger TV Walks Guide can be used whether you are walking east to west, or west to east.
Now a World Heritage Site and icon of Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall was constructed over a period of six years by order of the Emperor Hadrian, who came to Britain in AD 122. It was built to separate the Romans from the Barbarians, a feat it achieved for over 250 years.
