Contract Workers : Trails Data Editors
From time to time, ViewRanger need to manually input 3rd party trail route content, on behalf of its content partners, into its my.viewranger.com digital publishing platform. To meet these requirements we wish to establish a rota of individuals as “Trails Data Editors”, who have the appropriate computer skills and attention to detail to use the company’s route publishing tool (www.my.viewranger.com) and to undertake this task on a piece work basis.

Trails Data Editors
Activity: Trail Route data input & processing

An important part of ViewRanger’s business activity is the publishing of expert outdoors trails content on behalf of 3rd parties such as tourist bodies and guidebook publishers; generally this is done using digital data exchange.
From time to time, ViewRanger need to manually input 3rd party trail route content into its my.viewranger.com digital publishing platform. To meet these requirements the company wish to establish a rota of individuals as “Trails Data Editors”, who have the appropriate computer skills and attention to detail to use the company’s route publishing tool (www.my.viewranger.com) undertake this task on a piece work basis.
The Process
- When work becomes available ViewRanger will invite trained “Trails Data Editors” by email to bid for parcels of work based on their time availability.
- The bid response to ViewRanger should include the number of parcels that can be handled and the expected completion date after receipt of materials
- Based on the bids received ViewRanger will allocate the work – generally on a “first come first offered” basis. (NB previous reliability/quality of work will also be borne in mind)
- Materials will be supplied to the successful bidders
- Confirmation of completion to be sent to ViewRanger on or before the agreed completion date.
- ViewRanger will quality test all work despatched, and alert the processor to errors which must be corrected before final approval
The Task:
- To familiarise yourself with route creation on the my.viewranger platform, with remote training from ViewRanger as required.
- To receive trails content materials by e-mail and confirm receipt
- To access the trails content supplied as an electronic pdf document, and a GPX file of the trail path.
- To extract from the supplied pdf; the route description text as plain text (checking for unsupported text characters) and any images to be used.
- To log in to my.viewranger.com web based route creation platform using credentials as supplied by ViewRanger
- To create the route on the system using the GPX file supplied
- To enter the extracted route description text and images onto the route following the template approach as agreed with the particular 3rd party ie in the title, summary, full description and waypoints.
- To enter any URL links as required
- To proof read on the web system
- To save work as “private” on the system
- To notify ViewRanger of work completed. For QA & approval by ViewRanger
Rate of pay
Based on prior experience each route is expected to take no more than 40 mins. The rate of pay will be £4.00 per approved route.
Each month, ViewRanger will send a confirmation of number of approved routes processed. The Trails Data Processor will invoice ViewRanger for the work at the agreed rate per route.
