What are Premium Maps?
Premium maps are official map agency maps, they show you far more detail than our free global web maps, especially in rural & remote places. They will show you the contoured topography, rights of way and key points on the landscape. Once purchased and installed they are permanently stored in your phone’s memory for anytime use and will work without mobile coverage. You can also view and use premium maps you've purchased online for route planning on my.viewranger.com for some countries (currently UK, NI, RoI, FR DE, NZ).
What happens when I change my phone?
If you change your phone, you can transfer the maps that you have purchased to your new device. You can also use Premium maps you've bought on both your phone and tablet device.
How do I purchase Premium Maps?
You can buy the areas of Premium mapping that you need in advance, to make it easy to get precisely the mapping you need, we offer three ways to buy premium maps:
1. By Individual Map tile
If you just want to buy a small map area to meet your needs for a particular trip – then this is the way to go and you can do it directly to your handset using a mobile internet connection– the file sizes can be quite big so having a Wi-Fi connection will make it faster.
We use a grid or “tile” system for each country. So you can highlight the tiles you need individually or by area. Then download map tiles directly into the ViewRanger app, wherever you are and whenever you need them.
To load your account with pre-paid credit tokens – buy ViewRanger credit via our web shop or In-App (Apple & Android only).
2. Pre-packaged Regional or whole country mapping
Alternatively, you may simply want to buy the whole of your country or region and have it always ready to use. See the range of regions available for each country via the ViewRanger shop either in-App or via the web store. These can be delivered by immediate download, or buy post (at additional cost) stored on external media (CD, DVD or memory card).
3. Self-select custom mapping
The third option provides a balance between by-the-tile and pre-packaged – and allows you to custom select the areas you need and just buy that – perfect if you live on the boundary between two regions.
