After we’ve just about got over the excitement of the Tour de France we’re now building up our anticipation for the Tour of Britain! The annual cycling event begins this Sunday, which means there’s no better time to brush up on the event and get to know each stage of the cycling phenomenon.

As the country’s largest cycling race, it’s no surprise that some of the biggest names in road cycling take part, including Edvald Boasson Hagen, Dylan Van Baarle, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Lars Boom as previous winners and owners of the yellow jersey. The Yellow Jersey is the overall winning title, although it’s not the only award of achievement: the Chain Reaction Cycles Point Jersey is awarded for the most consistent finisher, the SKODA King of the Mountains Jersey goes to the best climber and the Yodel Spirits Jersey is given to the best performer overall in the sprints. So there’s plenty to follow and lots of skills to look out for!

Now onto the stages! The Tour of Britain has 8 stages in total, covering 1308.5km. The race begins in Glasgow then passes through areas including Carlisle, Bath and Dartmoor. These routes incorporate uphill climbs, downhill descents and technical sprints, then conclude in London on the famous Regent Street at the grand finish line.

The Tour of Britain starts Sunday the 4th of September, so get inspired and jump on your bike or head down to the stage hosts and see it live for yourself!
