#walk2016 with ViewRanger

#walk2016Pledge to walk 1,000, 500 or 250 miles in 2016!

We want to get the world walking with our #walk2016 challenge – and you can be part of it! Pledge to walk 1,000, 500 or 250 miles using ViewRanger and walk your way through 2016.

You’ll be joined by hundreds of other ViewRanger users who want to explore new areas, are looking to get fit, or who simply just love the outdoors and want to achieve something great. So whether it’s walking before work, walking to work, or rallying the family and getting out at the weekend, we’ll help you get every step of the way.

Choose the challenge best suited to you

Whichever challenge you sign up for, you’ll find tons of likeminded walkers taking it with you, all with the simple goal of completing it by 31st December 2016.

Walk 1,000 miles in 2016: Spread over the year, 1,000 miles is just under 20 miles a week, so it’s nowhere near as daunting as it might first sound. If you walk to work twice a week, plus find a circular route from your house to enjoy at the weekend, you’ll find the miles add up faster than you think.

Walk 500 miles in 2016: So do-able they made a song about it. 500 miles is just under 10 miles a week – that’s a nice long dog walk at the weekend or a couple of evening strolls with friends.

Walk 250 miles in 2016: Perfect for families with busy work and social lives who just want to get outside more. Rally the family for a new walk every Sunday afternoon and you’ll hit 250 miles in no time.

How it works

Once you’ve signed up, all you need to do is download and use the ViewRanger app to find and follow routes near you, or track your own routes as you go. Each mile you follow or track from the 1st January will be counted towards your #walk2016 total, and you can view a running total of your completed miles at my.viewranger.com to see how far you’ve come. You can also share your progress with your followers from your first mile to your last, and don’t forget to follow #walk2016 to keep-up-to-date with your fellow walkers!

We were partly inspired to create this challenge by ViewRanger user Nigel Ayers, who set himself the challenge to walk 1000 miles in 2015 using ViewRanger to find new routes and keep track of the miles he’d done. We caught up with him just before he finished the challenge to find out what motivated him and what he enjoyed most about it. You can read our Q&A with him here.
