ViewRanger subscription puts 607 Ordnance Survey maps in your pocket

Posted on 08/02/2018

ViewRanger, a pioneer in outdoor GPS navigation and augmented reality, has released a new subscription providing unlimited access to Ordnance Survey maps for Great Britain on smartphones, smartwatches, tablets and computers.

Anyone using the ViewRanger app can try the new map subscription free for 7 days. After the trial period, unlimited OS Explorer and Landranger maps can be viewed and downloaded on up to four devices for £24.99 per year – giving full access to Britain’s most trusted mapping on the most trusted digital navigation platform.

ViewRanger’s annual subscription is the digital equivalent to 607 paper Ordnance Survey maps covering the whole of Great Britain, with a combined value of over £5,000. Once downloaded all maps work without phone signal, and ViewRanger pinpoints the user’s precise GPS location as they move.

“Great maps are at the heart of every outdoor adventure, so we’re excited to deliver best-in-class Ordnance Survey mapping at affordable prices to everyone from seasoned explorers to occasional walkers.” said Craig Wareham, ViewRanger CEO. “ViewRanger is the only app that lets you download and view offline OS maps on your phone, watch and tablet – making it easier than ever to get started on your adventures.”

Ordnance Survey maps display key off-road navigational features including peak names, contours, crags, footpaths, campsites, hostels and pubs. ViewRanger’s new annual subscription includes all OS Landranger (1:50,000 scale) and Explorer (1:25,000 scale) maps, which can be viewed in the app at 15 zoom levels and also used to plot routes online at my.viewranger.com.

ViewRanger works with thousands of publishing partners – including national parks, outdoor magazines and tourism agencies – to create detailed interactive route guides in Britain’s top outdoor locations. Every route guide in Great Britain can be downloaded and overlaid on OS maps, enabling ViewRanger explorers to discover exciting new places and navigate with confidence everywhere from the Scottish Highlands to the Cornwall coast.

As well as the new subscription ViewRanger also offers Ordnance Survey map bundles as one-off purchases covering regions and national parks, plus individual OS map tiles covering up to 100 square kilometres for as little as 10p.
