New Android Wear app puts world's best outdoor maps on your wrist

Posted on 21/04/2017

Exploring the world’s greatest outdoor locations has never been easier thanks to a new smartwatch app by ViewRanger that puts detailed hiking maps for 23 countries on your wrist.

ViewRanger for Android Wear 2.0 lets outdoor enthusiasts access key navigation features with a simple glance at their watch, including highly-detailed topographic maps covering Europe, USA, Canada, and New Zealand; real-time compass directions; and easy-to-follow route guides from hundreds of top outdoor publishers around the world.

The app is available as a free update to the ViewRanger app on Google Play.

Designed to let you navigate confidently on any terrain while keeping your hands free, the smartwatch app pinpoints your exact location using GPS, tracks your movements on zoomable offline maps, and allows you to record every outdoor adventure. It works with all Android Wear 2.0 devices and is fully optimised for the new CASIO PRO TREK Smart watch.

Once connected with an Android smartphone, the ViewRanger app lets you send routes and maps directly to your smartwatch, allowing you to leave your phone safely tucked inside your pocket or backpack.

“Our new app brings best-in-class outdoor maps and easy-to-follow routes to every Android Wear device,” said Kris Wagner, marketing director at ViewRanger. “The app is designed for everyday adventures anywhere in the world, from hard-core explorers to someone exploring a trail in a nearby city park.”
