After completing a degree in Marketing & Market Research at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, Julia Torrejon joined ViewRanger in October 2015 as our Digital Marketing Intern. Julia was with us for four months, and shortly before she left she told us all about what she'd learnt during her internship, plus what the placement meant to her:
My internship has come to its end and I would like to say thank you to ViewRanger for the opportunity made available to me. These months have been very intense in terms of learning - it has been incredible. It’s been an exciting experience working with such as an energetic team of outdoor enthusiasts, I felt a valued member of the team, and contributing to the organisation has allowed me to begin my professional career.
In terms of making the most of your experience as intern, you need to know what you want to achieve from an internship, so you can challenge yourself to make sure you have a worthwhile experience! The internship itself was a real experience that has helped me to strengthen my skills in marketing and digital communications, data and analytics, to improve my abilities, allowing me to develop new capacities.
My main achievement at ViewRanger has been helping to drive further growth and higher user engagement in our social media community of users.
I was lucky to work alongside the marketing team on campaigns and partnerships with large companies such as Casio and Tag Heuer, developing, as a result, relationships which have elevated the brand.
My internship also involved doing some market research, focusing on social media channels and website content, compiling analytical reports and taking part in business development meetings, supporting the initiation and development of ViewRanger marketing campaigns.
I’ve enjoyed working as a part of a dynamic team and I’ve enjoyed myself, especially supporting the BBC Children in Need Rickshaw Challenge 2015 in their journey across the UK, feeling proud of helping, in any way, for this good cause, which was a very exciting project itself!
As well as this, I also worked with the team on the new #walk2016 challenge which ViewRanger launched in January, which challenges people to pledge to walk 1,000, 500 or 250 miles in 2016. I like the fact that people are very keen to get involved in a new challenge, never giving up and being very enthusiast about getting into the outdoors.
My Digital Marketing internship has really helped me to progress my career - I’ve been delighted to work for ViewRanger and I wish the company all the very best successes for the future.
Since completing her internship Julia now works as an Email Marketing Specialist for ARM. We were delighted to have her working with us in our small team, and we look forward to hearing great things as she progresses throughout her career!
